Pennsylvania Vacation July 2009

(for some odd reason, blogger won't let me move photos...so they are all at the bottom!)

Once again Popi and I decided we wanted to take the kids up to see Grandma Gracie before school started. Grandma had a week off in July and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to escape the everyday HOT Florida life.

We left Friday evening, July 10th at 6pm. Ashton and Ethan both surprised us by falling asleep promptly at 7pm only to wake up at 7am. We arrived in PA at 10am, only having the boys awake for 4 of the 16 hours really wasn’t that bad. Not but one time did we hear those famous words, “Are we there yet?” Of course, they came from Ashton while giggling just 20mins into the car ride. We thought for sure it meant a long journey. Instead they were angels. Never did I think I’d be able to use that word, but that is how I described them :) They were fabulous angels.

Saturday we were pretty useless. Of course Grandma was looking out the back porch when we pulled up and had a grin from ear to ear. It is nice to see a 94 year old woman so full of life. Nothing makes her happier than seeing her own kids but to add Great Grandchildren into the picture, it sure makes her day/year. We hung out with Uncle Phil for a bit and then headed over to Aunt Pat and Ms. Julie’s house. Everyone was so excited to see the boys.

Sunday we had dinner at Uncle Phil and Aunt Elma’s house. Wow, what a gorgeous home. Aunt Elma saved all of Angie’s toys from when she was a little girl and the boys had the best time playing doctor, blocks, and cash register. Let’s not forget the soybeans, oh the soybeans. For MILES outside of the house is a soybean crop. And can you believe Uncle Phil has never tried a soybean? Nope. Never. Seems strange. After all, it’s mainly what I eat, being a vegetarian and all ;)

Monday brought a huge surprise. After looking at local fruit farms I took Ethan back to Aunt Pat’s for a much needed nap, for the both of us. About 2 hours later my phone rings. It’s my Mom. “You need to come to Grandma Gracie’s right now. We just had to call Life Alert (911) to notify them of Grandma’s chest pains. She is on her way to the emergency room. I have Ashton outside, but I don’t want him to see her and get scared.” I run and pick up Ethan and off we went. We were only 3miles away, so it really wasn’t a big deal. I pulled in just as the ambulance showed up. I walk in and see Scott. My other cousin. He said Grandma wanted him to take her to the hospital but he was scared something would happen on their way in. It’s best just to push the button. We are still uncertain what exactly what it was, but she did have chest pains. I believe the tests showed nothing abnormal for her. So 48+ hours later she finally came home. Thank heavens.

After leaving the hospital we found out that Grandma lost yet another 4lbs. She did not like the food in the hospital and she already doesn’t care much for eating. This brings her to 86lbs. Gesh. Pretty little. So she wanted to go to dinner but first she had to see the boys. They came and picked us up (the kids were napping) and off we went to Red Lobster. I think the hit of the restaurant was how much food Ethan can consume over Grandma Gracie. Let’s just say he at MUCH more than her.

After dinner we wanted to swing by a local soft serve ice cream shop that is known for their raspberry soft serve, while in season. What do you know, they had it. Grandma ate the whole cone!!! All of it. And she made me pick her up 2 extra quarts for the house. Hopefully she continues to eat it up.

We had one final lunch today with Uncle Phil. He just eats my boys up. Ashton loves to sit down and have lunch with him and ask him about his day. It is so cute to see. Then Uncle Phil made sure to give the boys a special little surprise for their piggy banks. Thank you Uncle Phil :)

24hours after picking Grandma up from the hospital we had to say our goodbyes and shuffle off, back to Tampa. Ms. Julie and Aunt Pat came by for a quick goodbye. They boys sure will miss the two of them.

Ashton woke up this morning wanting a BIG snuggle from Aunt Pat only to find out she had already left for the gym and work. He was devastated. He burst into tears for fear of not being able to see her again. So when she got off of work a tad early to give him those snuggles it sure made a 3 year olds day :)

Thank you Aunt Pat and Ms. Julie for making us feel so welcomed in your home. We sure will miss you but look forward to the day you want to come down and go to the “Mouse’s House” with us!!!

Jacksonville Cousins...

Our Jacksonville cousins came to visit for a week with Grandma and Papa. Daddy had planned to take Mommy to see Rent and needed a sitter for one night. Grandma and Papa were happy to have 5 grandchildren running around them from ages 10-1. Wow. It brought memories back to Grandma and Papa, I'm sure.

Here is one photo Mommy was able to take, minus Ethan. He just did not want to be in a photo opt.

Pennsylvania here we come!

Me and the kids are off to see Grandma Gracie with my parents at 6pm tonight. We are in for a LONG night. 16hours of straight driving. I'm sure I'll hear, "Are we there yet?" more times than I wish to count.

Grandma Gracie is my Step-Dad's Mom. She is in her early 90's and still going strong. She loves to see the boys and even more so, her own son. I'm excited to show them off again, 2nd time in 8mths, but I'm so not looking forward to the LONG car ride.

We leave at 6pm tonight and should be in PA around 10am tomorrow morning. That is, if all goes according to plan and if we don't have to stop excessively. Thankfully, both my boys are terrific car riders and will sleep all night in their seats and besides the, "Are we there yet?" they don't ask for much...well snacks, but you better believe they'll get any snacks they want while in the car that long.

So, I'll see you all when we get back. Oh yeah, we go to Disney the day after we return for my BIRTHDAY! Spending the day with the mouse, life can't be any better than this ;)

We'll miss you Daddy! See you on the 17th.

Happy Birthday America!

The "gang" getting ready for the parade!!!
Maddie, Austin, and Ashton .
So I'm a little late. I was busy, what can I say?

Friday was a super busy day for us. We spoiled Ashton with a little "stay-vacation." We brought him to the YMCA for some one-on-one time going down the slides a million times, then we came home and packed up lunches for a picnic at the pool. And this is where we stayed for some 3 or so hours. Until AT's eyes were so red he could barely keep them open.

Saturday we woke up bright and early and Austin joined us as we headed over to the Temple Terrace Parade. It started off great, until it rained and we were all soaked. But that wasn't going to stop us or "rain on our parade!" hehehe. We enjoyed ourselves, rain and all.
Aren't the hats and bags Ms. Jamie, Ms. Nikki, and Ms. Barbara made for the kids, cute?Ashton's best bud, Austin.
Princess Maddie.Ethan, Austin, Ashton, and Owen waiting for CANDY!!! (Austin probably found some!)
After we were nice and wet we headed over to the Shuck's house for some FUN times in the pool and a BBQ. We go there every year, and every year it just gets better.
Ashton loved the diving board, so did Daddy ;)Ethan made a new friend ;)
Can you tell he was tired?
Once we got home I decided Ashton had to see fireworks so we put Ethan to bed and Mom and AT headed out to the mall to watch them shoot off fireworks. It was great, we are only 5mins from the mall and we were able to park across the street to help eliminate some of the loud booms. Ashton loved it. Just as he did last year at Mickey's Castle (Magic Kingdom).

On Sunday we went to the local farmers market and then to Grandma and Papa R's house. We were all just beat from our weekend, but we had a lovely dinner with them and then headed home. The boys are going over for a spend the night with Grandma and Papa on Tuesday, 3 of their cousins will be there! Mom and Dad have a date planned...RENT at the Performing Arts Center :)

Ashton goes Rock Climbing!!!!

Wow!!! Were we ever proud of Ashton. This is a bit out of his element to do something like this, but he jumped at the chance, and actually didn't do so bad for his first time. I can't wait to take him again.

Gearing up...

Yet another reason we love our YMCA :)

Homemade Play-Doh...

Who said I don't know how to have fun?
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.....

I know most of you know that it is totally out of my norm to allow my children to make a mess out of my house, but today was an exception. It literally poured for 5 + hours here. We were hunkered down for some time in Ashton's room while we waited out a tornado warning for our area, then the rain was coming down so bad that the roads were flooded...so we had nothing to do but stay home, for the 4th day in a row. And today I wasn't even able to get them to the gym at 9am like usual. So, when a friend mentioned she made homemade Play-Doh, I jumped in with her. What the heck right?

I'm not sure who liked it more, the boys or the dog. Yes, Kilo ate all of Ethan's new toy. Isn't it nice that he shares??? UGH!

By the way, that is not a banana, it is Play-Doh, made by yours truly.

Glass Shower Doors....

What do I really think of them? They suck! Period. No questions asked. They are ugly, hard to clean, small spaces that make it hard to clean, all in all, they suck. I'm not a fan. In fact, I could go weeks without cleaning them except then I feel like I'm using a bathroom at the Days Inn Hotel, something I would NEVER do.

So why was I cleaning the shower today, besides that fact that it was royally necessary? Yesterday, during my 9hour flip this house upside down while cleaning and dusting everything imaginable, I was cleaning the baseboards in my bathroom (btw, Soft Scrub Spray is amazing for baseboards) I noticed some wet bubbling paint near my shower door. GREAT! Yet another thing...that is how it happens around here, all at once. So I call my handyman of a Daddy and said, "Come over fast!" He comes, thankfully the silicone caulking just needs to be replaced. No biggy, he'll do it tomorrow.

Anyway, the reason for my blog? If you have the secret how to get those awful shower doors SPARKLING clean, getting the glass see through clean, no water spots at all, then I need your help. I need to know how you do it.

What do I do? I spray the doors down with Pam. Yup, you read that correctly, Pam. I read it on ask.com or somewhere fancy like that on the internet. Then I buy straight razor blades and I get to work. Yes, that is correct. I take the razor blade to every inch on those filthy glass doors and scrap it all off, inch by inch. It literally takes me over 2 hours to clean the shower. Plus, about a gallon of bleach to go along with it.

Thankfully we only have one bathroom in this house with glass doors. The other 2 have lovely shower curtains. Embrace the expensive shower curtains, they are worth every cent! Trust me.
